The Tigers took to the floor Monday night not only to beat North Florida, which they did by the score of 81 to 66, but to establish each player’s role on the team.

We have all heard coach Pastner say “We have to be a better rebounding team, from the bigs to the guards—we simply must be better.”

Help has arrived in the city of Memphis and his name is Shaq Goodwin.  Goodwin had five offensive and two defensive rebounds.  He was tied for total rebounds with Tarik Black.

“That’s my job, I am supposed to come in and rebound the ball and get every 50/50 ball,” Goodwin said.

There were other roles that showed themselves on Monday night; Ferrakohn Hall provided that energy spark that the team needs at the start of the game.

“I am here to be that energy guy and give our team a spark to start out the game or anytime it is needed,” Hall said.

The roles of the team’s captains, Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford and Tarik Black, was shown in the hard work put in on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.  The three combined for 17 total rebounds and nine assists.

“We are just doing what coach has told us to do,” Black said.  “Go up for the ball with two hands and come down on both feet.”

Black lead the team in scoring with 18, but Jackson lead the team in almost every other category.   Shooting  50 percent from the three-point line and 100 percent from the free throw line, while dishing  six assists, two steals and one block, Jackson showed a great all-around game.

Speaking of all around games, Antonio Barton has shown why he well be getting big minutes this year.  Barton had 11 points and four rebounds along with two assists in 31 minutes off the bench.  Barton showed how valuable a player he is to the success of this team.
