A 3-pointer from senior guard Chris Crawford broke a 65-65 tie with 1:43 to play. A dunk from Cardinals forward Montrezl Harrell with 4:47 left had put them up 65-57, but the Tigers reeled off 12 straight points to take a 69-65 lead at 1:03. The Tigers (22-7, 11-5 American Athletic Conference) held Louisville without a field goal over the last 4:47.

Senior guard Michael Dixon led Memphis with 18 points off the bench and went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Guard Geron Johnson scored 15 for Memphis. Freshman forward Austin Nichols finished with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Crawford scored 12. Michael Dixon scored six straight to cut that deficit to 65-63. Then Geron Johnson played some of the best on-ball defense you’ll ever see, stripped Russ Smith and got a transition layup. Just like that, the score was tied at 65 with with less than two minutes left.

I’ve said it many times. The Tigers are overated as being proved tonight against Cincinatti. Josh Pastner is a excellent recruiter, but not even close to being a real coach. Until he is replaced by a more competent coach, like Penny Hardaway, we will continue to have mediocre teams. All this holding up cards by Josh Pastner is so juvenile. I love my Tigers, but they really are mediocre and won’t go any where this year.
